Postcards from Puffin

I bought one hundred puffin covers in one box this week from Bloomsbury, so I thought I'd share a few of my favourites with you.

"Printing" Cover illustration by Jack Brough,1948.
I want this book! the cover is so retro, and on the subject of one of my favourite things! It's great how the title has just peeled back from the letterpress blocks from which it has just been printed.

ABC / 123 Cover illustrations by Dorothy Chapman, 1943.
I like the restricted and subdued colour scheme here, and they don't look overly childish, unlike some of today's books!

"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" Cover illustration by John Tenniel, 1949.
Tenniel's classic illustations for the "Alice" series of books are what he is mainly remembered for today, he was the original illustrator for this book, drawing 92 drawings which would be carved into wood blocks ready to be printed.
